S.A.L.T. Awards The purpose of the annual SALT Awards is to bestow a high level of recognition and appreciation upon persons involved in Syracuse Area Live Theater and thus create a wider appreciation and awareness of live theater among the geneneral public and hopefully increase their participation and attendance at live theater presenteitions. Initially, the SALT awards will be limited to Onondaga County with awards presented in three categortes. A. Professional Theater. B. Community Theater. C. Touring Road SHows. In future years all these parameters can be expanded. The awards will be presented on a calendar year basis starting with 2003. The actual awards presentation will take place in the spring on April 23, 2007 at Syracuse Stage. The winners of SALT awards will be decided by the Academy of Syracuse Area Live Theater. The academy shall consist of around 25 to 30 people active in Area Theater in a variety of capacities. Selection shall be done by academy balloting, not in meetings or by committee consensus. Three awards will be people choice awards by general public voting. Annual Live theater Lifetime Achievement Awards will also be presented. Candidates will also be inducted into the Live Theater Hall of Fame. For 2003 a total of 16 awards were be presented. Additional categories may be added in future years.
Lifetime Achievement Awards. For the first couple of years, two will be presented each year, there after only one per year. Hall of Fame Inductees. For the first couple of years, two persons will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, there after only one per year. People Choice Awards.
Voting by the academy and public shall be from January 1st 2007 to February 28th 2007. Nominees. The top 4 vote getters in each category will be announced in early April and the awards ceremony presentations on April 23. Academy Voting System. Each academy Member shall select three nominees for each category. Listing them as 1st 2nd and 3rd. A point system shall determine the winner. Five points for each 1st place, three points for each 2nd and one point each 3rd. With this system no one person or small group of persons can substantially influence the voting outcome, a very fair system indeed. The ballots will be sent direct from each academy person to the National Accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP for verification, and tabulation and complete impartial security of the final results.
